At Kind Dental in Scotch Plains, we advise our patients to visit the office every six months for a dental examination and cleaning. This allows the dentist and dental hygienist to monitor the patient’s oral health.

Each dental appointment begins with a review and conversation about the patient’s dental history. The Kind Dental dentist and dental hygienist will review your dental concerns and address any discomfort immediately. A preventative dental care exam usually includes a regular or advanced form of cleaning, X-rays (if necessary), periodontal evaluation, and an oral cancer screening. We’ll also ask if the patient is experiencing any pain or discomfort since their last checkup.

In addition to examining the teeth, during the appointment, we will look at the health of the gums and jaw bone — looking for any indication of gingivitis (early gum disease), periodontitis (moderate to severe gum disease or infection), halitosis (bad breath which could indicate a mouth or systemic issue), bone loss, as well as, oral cancer.

The dentist will then meet with the patient to discuss any findings and provide recommendations regarding oral hygiene to ensure proper dental care. If a cavity or tooth decay is discovered, the dentist will recommend the appropriate treatment and discuss any next steps.
