This is why you always hear us tell you to floss, floss, and floss some more! There are several gum conditions that could exist in our mouths, including:

Gingivitis: Excessive plaque accumulation above the gums causing inflammation, recession, and sensitivity. This could occur if a 6-month cleaning and checkup is not maintained

Periodontitis: Periodontitis is when bacteria that usually reside over your gums sneak under your gums and becomes a hardened infection and begins to cause bone loss – this causes a pocket where bacteria can live and hide and continue to cause problems. if not treated in a timely fashion, can lead to pain and sensitivity in teeth and mobility and even loss of all teeth.

What to expect at your Kind Dental periodontal care visit

Did you know there are several types of cleanings and gum treatments that are available to you?

General Cleaning

The removal of tartar and build up above the gums helps to maintain and allows the gums to breathe and cleanse easily. The hygienist will clean your teeth above the gums with an ultrasonic scaler and teach you the right ways to maintain your teeth at home. They will suggest any change in mouthwash or toothpaste or type of brush customized to your needs.

Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and root planing (aka deep cleaning) is used to treat periodontal disease. Scaling root planing removes this bacteria and stops further bone loss so you can keep your own teeth. A hygienist or dentist numbs your gum so you can have a pain-free experience and cleans under your gums with ultrasonic cleaning instruments.

We then maintain you on frequent visits and observe the healing of gum pockets via periodontal maintenance and when needed, application of gum medication. If further treatment is needed, we guide you to see a gum specialist.

Laser Gingivectomy

Laser gingivectomy is a cutting edge laser technology to treat unhealthy gums around restorations and crowns as well as utilized to improve cosmetic cases and smile designs by creating even gum levels, leading to a uniform smile. Minimizes post-op and healing dramatically compared to conventional periodontal procedures.
