Preventative Care Dentistry at Kind Dental in Scotch Plains

Custom mouth guards for the life of your teeth.

One of our goals at Kind Dental is to provide effective and proactive treatment in every situation. Oral orthotic devices offer a painless and non-invasive treatment solution for a variety of conditions. Every device we prescribe is custom-crafted especially for you.

Whether we’re treating nighttime sleep grinding, a diagnosed case of obstructive sleep apnea, bite problems, or other jaw joint disorders, an oral orthotic device may be a valuable complement to your treatment. Let’s discuss your individual treatment goals and needs.

At Kind Dental we create a variety of oral orthotic devices, each for a specific need and use. Night guards help to prevent teeth from grinding each other down and allows the jaw an opportunity to rest. Sport guards prevent teeth from breaking or chipping during high impact sports. And snore guards provide patients with a more restful sleep, helping to prevent airway closure caused by sleep apnea or other conditions.

Additionally, if you frequently grind or clench your teeth, you may have a condition known as bruxism. Bruxism can negatively impact the health of your teeth, dental restorations, and jaw and can lead to temporomandibular joint disorder (known as TMJ). A custom mouth guard will help protect your teeth and avoid any further damage.

What to expect at your Kind Dental oral orthotic device visits

During your initial appointment we will take an x-ray of your teeth and jaw joint— thoroughly examining your teeth, jaw joint, and bite alignment. Once we discuss your oral device options, we will take impressions of your teeth and bite to create your unique oral appliance.

The second appointment is when you will receive your oral appliance and we will custom fit the oral appliance for you. We take the time to adjust the device to fit the nuances of your specific bite for utmost comfortability. During this visit we will also show you how to use and care for your new oral orthotic device.

Once you’ve used your new oral device for about 4 weeks, we suggest scheduling a third appointment as a follow-up visit. This appointment allows us an opportunity to monitor the effects of the device, the oral device itself and if necessary, make any adjustments to ensure your comfort and the effectiveness of the oral device.
